Nebraska edges Kansas State 7‑6 in walk-off thriller
LINCOLN, Neb. (Interstat) — Jeter Worthley went 5-for-5 and scored three times, and Rylan Stokes delivered a walk-off single in the ninth inning as Nebraska beat Kansas State 7-6 Tuesday at Haymarket Park.
The Cornhuskers (34-11) trailed 6-4 entering the seventh before Worthley tripled home Moyer M. to tie the game. Stokes then singled down the left-field line in the ninth to score Overbeek J. and complete Nebraska’s comeback.
Kansas State (25-18) took a 6-4 lead in the fifth on Nick English’s two-run homer and added a solo shot by Bear Madliak in the sixth. Ty Smolinski also homered for the Wildcats.
Nebraska starter Tucker Timmerman allowed three runs over four innings, while J’Shawn Unger pitched two scoreless frames in relief. Kansas State’s James Guyette struck out six in four innings but surrendered three runs. Aaron Arnold tossed 1 2/3 hitless innings for the Wildcats.
Nebraska outhit Kansas State 14-8. The win avenged a March 24 loss to the Wildcats, who had swept a three-game series from Kansas over the weekend.
