New Mexico State at Arizona State

Sun Devils Host Aggies in Midweek Non-Conference Clash

PHOENIX (Interstat) — The Arizona State Sun Devils, riding high in the 2026 season, will host the struggling New Mexico State Aggies in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time.

Arizona State (28-13) enters with significant momentum, having won two of three on the road at BYU last weekend, including a 12-8 victory Saturday and a 13-0 shutout Friday. The Sun Devils’ offense has been potent, averaging over eight runs per game during their recent stretch.

New Mexico State (14-22) seeks to halt a three-game skid after being swept at home by Sam Houston in a series where all three losses were by two runs or fewer. The Aggies dropped a 12-10 decision in the finale on Sunday.

The Sun Devils defeated the Aggies 10-4 in their previous meeting this season on March 25 in Tempe.

A player to watch for the Aggies is outfielder Tommy Meluskey. He drove in three runs in Sunday’s loss, providing a bright spot in a recent 2-for-24 stretch at the plate. For Arizona State, right-handed pitcher Derek Schaefer is a key bullpen arm. He was dominant in his last outing at BYU on April 18, throwing two perfect innings with four strikeouts. However, his season has been volatile, including a rough appearance on April 11 where he allowed six earned runs to Utah.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 victory for Arizona State.

Following this game, Arizona State will prepare for a three-game home series against Baylor beginning Friday. New Mexico State continues its road trip with a Conference USA series at Jacksonville State starting Friday.
