Evansville at Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — A pair of surging pitchers will take the mound when the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles host the Evansville Purple Aces in a non-conference matchup Wednesday at the Physical Activities Center.

The Screaming Eagles (22-18) enter with a winning record, while the Purple Aces sit at 15-22. However, Evansville is coming off a 6-1 road win at Belmont on Sunday, powered by a historic pitching performance.

The player to watch for Evansville is right-hander Kenton Deverman. The ace is coming off a dominant outing, throwing six no-hit innings with nine strikeouts against Belmont. In his last three starts, he has allowed just four earned runs over 15.1 innings with 19 strikeouts, including another five-inning, no-hit performance against Bradley on April 4.

Southern Indiana will counter with Ean DiPasquale, who is also riding a strong start. He pitched seven innings of two-hit ball, allowing two earned runs with five strikeouts in a 10-3 win over Tennessee-Martin on Sunday. His recent outings have been effective, as he has not allowed a hit in two of his last three appearances, spanning 6.1 innings.

Offensively, Evansville’s Reid Haire is hot after a perfect 4-for-4 day with a home run against Belmont. Southern Indiana’s lineup features power threats Khi Holiday and Noah Foster, who each homered and drove in three runs in the same Tennessee-Martin victory.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest projects to be a tight one, with a predicted final score of Evansville 5, Southern Indiana 4.

The in-state foes are scheduled to meet again in Evansville on Tuesday, May 5.

First pitch is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. The forecast calls for cloudy skies and frigid temperatures.
