Citadel at Georgia Southern

Bulldogs, Eagles Set for Midweek Clash in Statesboro

STATESBORO, Ga. (Interstat) — The Citadel Bulldogs visit the Georgia Southern Eagles on Wednesday at J.I. Clements Stadium in a non-conference matchup between in-state programs looking to build momentum.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT under clear skies with a game-time temperature near 75 degrees.

The Bulldogs (18-21) enter having dropped two of three at East Tennessee State last weekend, including a 12-1 loss Sunday. The Eagles (12-27) were swept in their weekend series at Old Dominion, falling 6-3 on Sunday.

A player to watch for The Citadel is reliever CJ Van Slooten. Over his last seven appearances, the right-hander has allowed runs in only three outings, posting a 1.59 ERA over that span with just four hits allowed in 9.1 innings. He threw 2.1 scoreless innings against Georgia Southern in the teams’ last meeting.

Georgia Southern will counter with reliever Thomas Burke, who has been effective lately. Burke tossed three perfect innings with two strikeouts in Sunday’s loss at Old Dominion. In his last three appearances, he has surrendered just one hit over five innings.

The Bulldogs won the previous meeting this season, 7-1, on March 4 in Charleston. According to Interstat’s game simulator, The Citadel is projected to win again, 4-2.

Both teams will resume conference play this weekend. The Citadel hosts UNC Greensboro in a Southern Conference series starting Friday. Georgia Southern travels to face Sun Belt foe Appalachian State beginning Friday.
