Fordham, Iona Set for Afternoon Clash at City Park

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Fordham Rams visit the Iona Gaels for a non-conference baseball game Wednesday afternoon at City Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 51 degrees.

Fordham (18-23) enters after a 12-6 home loss to Fairfield on Tuesday. Iona (14-18) rides a three-game winning streak after sweeping a series at Saint Peter’s over the weekend.

A key matchup will feature Fordham’s offense against Iona’s pitching. Rams outfielder Joey Donnelly is a player to watch, coming off a 3-for-5 performance with a home run and three RBIs against Fairfield. Over his last 10 games, Donnelly is batting .300 (12-for-40) with two homers and nine RBIs.

The Gaels will likely rely on pitcher Luke Lang, who has been dominant in recent relief appearances. In his last outing on April 19, Lang struck out 10 over five innings of hitless relief, allowing two earned runs in a win at Saint Peter’s. In his last three appearances spanning 15 2/3 innings, he has surrendered just six hits.

The teams last met on March 10, with Fordham claiming a 14-2 home victory. According to Interstat’s game simulator, Iona is projected to win Wednesday’s rematch, 7-4.

Fordham’s recent form has been inconsistent, going 4-6 over its last 10 games, including Tuesday’s loss. Iona has won five of its last seven.

Following this game, Fordham opens a three-game home series against George Mason on Friday. Iona travels to face Fairfield for a three-game series starting Friday.
