Jacksonville State at Troy

TROY, Ala. (Interstat) — A surging Jacksonville State squad riding an eight-game winning streak will face a Troy team searching for consistency when the Gamecocks visit Riddle–Pace Field on Tuesday.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 69 degrees.

The Gamecocks (33-8), one of the nation’s winningest teams, arrive after a dominant weekend sweep of Florida International, capped by a 7-2 victory Sunday. Troy (20-20) is coming off a high-scoring series win over Louisiana-Lafayette, including a 15-11 slugfest Sunday.

Jacksonville State will look to ace Steven Cash on the mound. The right-hander is in stellar form, coming off a 13-strikeout, one-run performance over six innings against FIU. In his last four starts, he has allowed just six hits total, though command issues led to four earned runs in two of those outings.

He will be opposed by a potent Troy lineup fueled by catcher Jimmy Janicki. Janicki is on a tear, driving in 16 runs over his last eight games. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and five RBIs in Sunday’s win, part of a 15-hit Trojan attack.

While the Gamecocks have won 15 of their last 17, Troy has alternated wins and losses over its last 10 games. Jacksonville State’s offense is balanced, with Cooper Blauser and Caleb Johnson each homering in the series finale against FIU.

Projections are split. Interstat’s game simulator predicts an 8-6 Jacksonville State victory, while its ELO rating system gives Troy a 57.6% probability to win.

Following the midweek contest, Jacksonville State hosts New Mexico State in a weekend series, while Troy travels to face Marshall.
