Jacksonville at Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — The surging Jacksonville Dolphins look to continue their recent mastery of the in-state rival Florida Gators when the teams meet Tuesday afternoon at Alfred A. McKethan Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature near 76 degrees.

Jacksonville (21-18) enters having won four straight, including a three-game sweep of West Georgia capped by a 9-8, 10-inning victory Sunday. Third baseman Logan Baratta led that win, going 4 for 5 with three RBIs. Over his last 10 games, Baratta is batting .294 (10 for 34) with 12 RBIs.

The Dolphins have won five of their last six and stunned the then-Gators 4-3 in Gainesville on March 31. A repeat performance would give Jacksonville a significant boost ahead of a weekend series against Queens.

The Florida Gators (28-13), however, aim to halt a two-game skid after dropping the final two games of their series against Auburn, including an 8-5 loss Saturday. Despite the defeats, outfielder Blake Cyr has been on a tear. In that Saturday loss, he homered twice and drove in five runs. Over the last three games, he is 4 for 11 with four home runs and nine RBIs.

Florida’s potent lineup, which averages 7.8 runs per game at home, will be tested by a Jacksonville pitching staff that has allowed just 4.2 runs per game during its current four-game win streak.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Dolphins are projected to win 8-5.

Following the midweek contest, Florida opens a crucial SEC series at home against Texas A&M on Friday, while Jacksonville hosts Queens (N.C.) to start a three-game set.
