High Point at Charleston Southern
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — The surging High Point Panthers will go for a road sweep of the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in a Big South Conference series finale Sunday afternoon at Buccaneer Ballpark.
First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 84 degrees.
High Point (26-12, 8-3 Big South) has overpowered the Buccaneers in the first two games of the series, winning 14-11 on Friday and 14-3 on Saturday. The Panthers have won seven of their last eight games overall.
Charleston Southern (21-16, 4-7) looks to salvage the final game and halt a four-game skid that includes the two losses to High Point and a midweek defeat to The Citadel.
A key matchup will feature two hot hitters. High Point’s Frank Kelly is coming off a dominant performance Saturday, going 4 for 5 with a home run and five RBIs. In the series, he is 5 for 10 with eight RBIs.
For Charleston Southern, Gavin Speirs has been a bright spot during the slump. The second baseman had two hits and two RBIs in Saturday’s loss and is 3 for 9 in the series. He had a three-hit, four-RBI game last Sunday at USC Upstate.
The Panthers’ offense has been relentless, scoring 28 runs on 30 hits in the series. Jace Kohler added two home runs and four RBIs in Saturday’s win, while starter Ty Brachbill threw seven strong innings.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 victory for High Point on Sunday.
Following the game, High Point travels to face North Carolina on Tuesday. Charleston Southern visits in-state rival College of Charleston on Tuesday.
