Huskies Outlast Zips in MAC Slugfest Despite No-Hit Bid
AKRON, Ohio (Interstat) — Max Vaisvila pitched six no-hit innings and Ivan Dahlberg hit a three-run homer as Northern Illinois held off Akron 10-8 in a Mid-American Conference game Friday at InfoCision Stadium.
Vaisvila allowed two unearned runs with three walks and three strikeouts but did not factor in the decision. The Huskies (21-11) scored six unearned runs in the eighth inning to build a commanding lead. Dahlberg’s ninth-inning blast provided critical insurance.
Akron’s Elijah Griffith was stellar in a losing effort, allowing one earned run on one hit with eight strikeouts over six innings. Easton Amundson homered for the Zips (15-22), who rallied for four runs in the eighth and one in the ninth but fell short.
