Rider at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. (Interstat) — A surging Rider squad will look to extend its winning ways against a struggling Princeton team when the Broncs visit the Tigers in a non-conference afternoon matchup Wednesday at Bill Clarke Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. under cloudy skies with a forecast temperature of 82 degrees.

The Broncs (19-11) enter on a high note, having won five of their last six, including a 3-2 victory at Seton Hall on Tuesday. Rider’s bullpen has been pivotal, and a key arm to watch is right-hander Jake Dorety. The reliever earned the win against Seton Hall with three scoreless innings and has allowed just one hit over his last 6 2/3 innings of work across five appearances.

Princeton (9-21) seeks consistency after snapping a four-game skid with a 4-2 win at Columbia on Sunday. The Tigers will rely on left-hander Justin Kim, who started that victory with six no-hit innings, striking out nine. Kim has been a bright spot, tossing 13 scoreless innings in two of his last four starts.

Offensively, Rider’s Nick Shuhet is coming off a two-RBI performance Tuesday. For Princeton, first baseman Tomas Cernius is fresh from a 3-for-4 day at the plate Sunday.

The teams are on divergent tracks. Rider’s record includes series wins over Fairfield and Marist in April, while Princeton has won just two of its last 10 games dating to March 25.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Rider is projected to win 6-2.

Following Wednesday’s contest, Rider opens a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series at home against Manhattan on Friday. Princeton begins Ivy League play with a home doubleheader against Penn on Saturday.
