High Point at North Carolina A&T

HIGH POINT, N.C. (Interstat) — In a stunning midweek reversal, the North Carolina A&T Aggies erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to overcome an early four-run deficit and rout the High Point Panthers 10-4 in nonconference baseball Tuesday evening at Truist Point.

The victory, which snapped a four-game losing streak for the Aggies, was fueled by opportunistic offense and capitalized on critical High Point miscues. The Panthers, who entered the game with a dominant 24-11 record and had won eight of their last nine, saw their pitching and defense unravel in the decisive frame.

High Point had seized control early against North Carolina A&T starter J. Fields. In the top of the second inning, catcher SeoJun Oh and left fielder Jake McCarter launched back-to-back solo home runs to right and left field, respectively. The Panthers then added two more runs without the benefit of a hit, using two walks, a single by Kohler and a wild pitch that allowed Kohler to score, building a 4-0 lead.

The Aggies, now 10-25, immediately began chipping away in the bottom of the second against High Point starter Justin Silverstein. Three consecutive walks loaded the bases before a wild pitch and a throwing error by the catcher allowed two runs to score. An RBI bunt single by B. Harper and a run-scoring single by center fielder Marcus Bradshaw completed the four-run response, tying the game 4-4. All four runs in the inning were unearned.

The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the sixth, when the Aggies sent 11 batters to the plate. The inning was a disaster for High Point, featuring two errors, a hit batter, two walks and four hits. R. Allen scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error by the Panther catcher. Luis Acevedo and Bradshaw followed with RBI singles, and JT Taylor and Bruce Wyche added run-scoring hits to blow the game open. Of the six runs scored in the inning, only two were earned.

The most important part of the game was undoubtedly the Aggies’ six-run sixth inning. It transformed a tight contest into a commanding lead, demoralizing a High Point team that had been in control and showcasing North Carolina A&T’s ability to exploit mistakes. The inning featured a cascade of Panther failures—errant throws, missed opportunities and ineffective relief pitching—that the Aggies ruthlessly converted into a game-winning rally.

Reliever Braxton Davis earned the win for North Carolina A&T, providing four strong innings of middle relief. He allowed one run on four hits while striking out two, stabilizing the game after the early outburst. Joshua Hauser closed the game with a scoreless ninth, striking out two.

For High Point, Jack Carey delivered a key performance out of the bullpen, entering in the second inning and throwing 2 2/3 scoreless and hitless innings with two strikeouts to stop the initial Aggie rally. Mateo Wells and Charlie Jones also provided scoreless relief, but the damage from the sixth inning was insurmountable.

Offensively for the Aggies, Bruce Wyche went 3 for 5 with an RBI double, and Marcus Bradshaw drove in two runs on two hits. For the Panthers, Oh finished 2 for 4 with his home run.

The result defied pregame projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had predicted an 8-4 High Point victory and gave the Panthers a 75.6% probability to win.

High Point (24-12) looks to rebound as it opens a road series at Charleston Southern on Friday. North Carolina A&T (10-25) will host Northeastern for a three-game set beginning the same day.
