MALIBU, Calif. (Interstat) — Garret Plata and Carson Revay combined for a dominant no-hit effort on the mound, and the Pacific offense erupted for five runs in the ninth inning to secure a 9-4 victory over Pepperdine in a West Coast Conference baseball game Sunday evening at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

The game’s most critical sequence came not from the Tigers’ late offensive outburst, but from their pitching staff’s response to adversity. After staking starter Plata to a 3-0 lead through two innings, the Tigers saw their advantage nearly vanish in the bottom of the third. Pepperdine’s Daniel Patterson launched a two-run homer, and an ensuing error by Pacific third baseman Brendan allowed another run to score, cutting the lead to 3-2. With two runners on and only one out, Plata faced the heart of the Waves’ order. He struck out Connor James and got Cole Woodworth to ground into an inning-ending fielder’s choice, halting the rally and preserving a narrow lead.

From that point, Plata was untouchable. The right-hander retired the next 10 batters he faced, finishing his afternoon with six innings pitched, allowing no hits, two earned runs, and striking out eight. He handed the ball to reliever Carson Revay, who completed the combined no-hitter with three perfect innings of relief, striking out two. The Pepperdine runs were scored via Patterson’s home run and an unearned run in the eighth following another error.

Pacific’s offense, which managed 13 hits, was held in check for much of the afternoon after building its early lead against Pepperdine starter Collin Valentine. The Tigers led 3-2 after the third and extended it to 4-2 in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Derek Bartram. The game remained tight until the top of the ninth, when Pacific sent 10 men to the plate against three Pepperdine relievers. Braeden Schnabel delivered an RBI single, Bartram drove in two with a single to right-center, and another run scored on a bases-loaded walk to break the game open.

Bartram led the Tigers at the plate, going a perfect 4 for 4 with three RBIs. Schnabel added three hits and three RBIs. For Pepperdine, Patterson provided the primary offense with his two-run homer and a single, accounting for two of the Waves’ four runs. Danny Cook added an RBI double in the eighth.

The victory gave Pacific the series win, two games to one, after the teams split the first two contests. It improved the Tigers’ record to 12-21 overall, while Pepperdine fell to 11-24. The result defied the pregame projections from Interstat, which gave Pepperdine a 61.3% probability to win and projected a 3-2 Waves victory.

Pacific is scheduled to visit UC Davis on Tuesday. Pepperdine will travel to face Cal Poly on Tuesday.
