Portland at Gonzaga
SPOKANE, Wash. (Interstat) — The Gonzaga Bulldogs will look to secure a series sweep when they host the Portland Pilots in a West Coast Conference baseball matchup Sunday evening at Washington Trust Field and Patterson Baseball Complex.
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. under forecasted rainy conditions and a temperature near 57 degrees.
The Bulldogs (18-14) have taken the first two games of the series, including a 12-6 victory Friday night. Gonzaga’s offense has been potent, averaging 10 runs in the series so far.
Portland (20-11) aims to salvage the finale and halt a two-game skid. The Pilots had won seven of eight prior to this series.
A key matchup will feature two hot-hitting third basemen. Portland’s Leo Cote is coming off a strong performance Friday, going 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs. For Gonzaga, Mikey Bell was exceptional in the same game, finishing 5 for 6 with two RBIs, highlighting a recent surge at the plate.
On the mound, both teams will seek more stability after Friday’s high-scoring affair. Portland reliever Grady Keljo provided a bright spot with a scoreless inning of work in the loss.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest projects to be another close one, with a predicted final score of Gonzaga 7, Portland 6.
Following Sunday’s game, Portland travels to face Washington State on Monday. Gonzaga’s next action is a road series at Saint Mary’s beginning Friday.
