Louisiana-Monroe at Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. (Interstat) — The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks and Appalachian State Mountaineers will meet Sunday afternoon to decide their Sun Belt Conference series after splitting high-scoring games to open the set.

First pitch is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium. The forecast calls for clear skies and 68-degree temperatures.

The series is tied after Appalachian State (17-15) won 13-5 on Friday and Louisiana-Monroe (20-16) responded with a 14-9 victory Saturday. The rubber match will close the three-game weekend series.

A player to watch for the Warhawks is reliever Holden Hess, who delivered four shutout innings in Saturday’s win, allowing just one earned run. Over his last seven appearances, Hess has posted a 1.69 ERA in 10 2/3 innings, striking out 12.

Appalachian State will look to center fielder Charlie Evans, who has been a consistent bat. Evans is 4 for 7 with two RBIs in the first two games of this series and is hitting .429 (9 for 21) over his last six games.

The Mountaineers’ bullpen will aim to rebound after Saturday’s loss, while the Warhawks will seek a second straight series win on the road. According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projection favors Appalachian State in a narrow 6-5 contest.

Following Sunday’s finale, Appalachian State travels to face Western Carolina on Tuesday. Louisiana-Monroe returns home to host Arkansas State in a conference series starting Friday.
