Ivy League Rivals Set for Sunday Showdown at Yale Field
WEST HAVEN, Conn. (Interstat) — The Yale Bulldogs will look to secure a series victory when they host the Harvard Crimson in the rubber match of a three-game Ivy League set Sunday afternoon at Yale Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. under clear skies with temperatures near 58 degrees.
Yale (18-10) and Harvard (6-18) split a doubleheader Saturday. The Bulldogs won the opener 9-6 before the Crimson took the nightcap 5-3, snapping a five-game skid.
The series finale features a compelling pitching storyline. Harvard’s Gio Colasante, a rare two-way talent, is a player to watch. He started on the mound in Saturday’s second game, throwing six hitless innings with two earned runs and three strikeouts to earn the win. At the plate this season, he is batting .300 with a home run and three RBIs over his last 10 games, including a 2-for-5 performance with an RBI in the first game Saturday.
Yale will counter with left-hander Jack Ohman, who started the opener Saturday. Ohman took the loss despite a powerful outing, striking out 11 Crimson batters over seven innings while allowing five hits and four earned runs. In his previous start on April 4 at Princeton, he fired six no-hit innings with nine strikeouts.
The Bulldogs have been the stronger team this season, boasting a 12-game edge in the win column. Yale’s offense erupted for 20 runs in a midweek win over New Haven and averaged 11 runs per game in a three-game sweep at Princeton last weekend.
Harvard’s victory Saturday was a bright spot in a challenging season. Prior to that win, the Crimson had dropped eight of their last nine contests.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Yale is projected to win 7-4.
Following Sunday’s contest, Yale will visit Quinnipiac on Wednesday. Harvard will host Massachusetts on Tuesday.
