Louisiana-Lafayette at Southeastern Louisiana
HAMMOND, La. (Interstat) — In-state rivals Louisiana-Lafayette and Southeastern Louisiana meet Wednesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field with both teams looking to build momentum ahead of weekend conference series.
The Ragin’ Cajuns (18-13) visit the Lions (19-13) in a midweek non-conference matchup. First pitch is set for a clear 76-degree evening.
Louisiana-Lafayette aims to rebound from a 5-1 loss at James Madison on Saturday, which concluded a 1-2 series loss. The Cajuns won the previous meeting between these teams, 9-3, in Lafayette on March 24.
A key player for the Cajuns is right-hander Ty Roman, who has been dominant in stretches. In that March 24 win over Southeastern, Roman allowed three earned runs over 5 1/3 innings. In his last start, despite the loss to James Madison, he struck out six over six hitless innings, though he walked seven and allowed three earned runs. He also threw 5 2/3 no-hit innings in a win at Houston on March 18.
Southeastern Louisiana is coming off a high-scoring, 11-inning 13-11 victory at Incarnate Word on Friday, part of a series it won 2-1. The Lions’ staff will look for a steadier outing from two-way player Lakin Polk. The right-hander has been volatile, tossing six strong innings of one-run ball against New Orleans on March 28 but surrendering seven runs in 4 1/3 innings at McNeese State on March 21.
Offensively, the Lions are powered by Rhett Centanni and Alex Perry, who combined for four home runs and eight RBIs in Friday’s win at Incarnate Word.
Both bullpens could be tested, as midweek games often feature limited starts. The Cajuns’ Mark Collins, who had two hits in the last game, will be a bat to watch.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projection favors the home team, predicting a 7-2 victory for Southeastern Louisiana.
Following this contest, Louisiana-Lafayette hosts Southern Mississippi for a three-game series starting Friday. Southeastern Louisiana opens a Southland Conference series at home against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday.
