Pacific at Cal State Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Interstat) — The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners look to build on a series win and continue their home success when they host the struggling Pacific Tigers in a non-conference matchup Monday at Hardt Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. PDT on April 6.
The Roadrunners (13-17) took two of three from Utah Valley over the weekend, capped by an 8-2 victory Saturday. A key to that win was reliever CJ Brown, who delivered five scoreless innings of four-hit ball to earn the win. Brown, a player to watch for the Roadrunners, has been effective in recent outings, allowing just two earned runs over his last 10 1/3 innings of work.
Pacific (10-19) arrives after dropping a tight road series at Saint Mary’s, including a 2-1 loss Saturday in which starter Garret Plata was brilliant in a hard-luck defeat. Plata, the Tigers’ standout to watch, tossed seven no-hit innings but was tagged with two earned runs and the loss. Over his last four starts, the right-hander has a 1.69 ERA, allowing just six earned runs in 22 innings pitched.
Despite Plata’s strong form, the Tigers have lost seven of their last ten games and have struggled to provide consistent run support. The Roadrunners, meanwhile, have shown offensive firepower, scoring eight or more runs in three of their last six contests.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Cal State Bakersfield is projected to win 6-2.
Following Monday’s contest, the Roadrunners hit the road for a midweek game at Saint Mary’s on Wednesday before a weekend series at UC Davis. The Tigers continue their road trip with a three-game series at Pepperdine starting Friday.
