Utah at Utah Valley
Preview: Utah Utes at Utah Valley Wolverines
VINEYARD, Utah (Interstat) — The Utah Utes, riding a potent offense, will visit in-state foe Utah Valley on Tuesday night at Brent Brown Ballpark.
The Utes (15-10) enter having won two of three in a high-scoring series against Kansas State, capped by a 16-14 victory on Sunday. Utah has scored 10 or more runs in five of its last 10 games.
A key catalyst has been left fielder Jake Long. The junior is on a tear, hitting .500 (16 for 32) with four home runs and 18 RBIs over his last eight games. He was 5 for 6 with two homers and four RBIs in Sunday’s win.
Utah Valley (9-13) looks to snap a six-game skid, all on the road against Stanford and Cincinnati. The Wolverines’ offense has shown flashes, scoring 29 runs in three games at Stanford last weekend.
Right fielder Kaden Carpenter provides power in the middle of the order. He homered and drove in two runs in a 3-for-4 performance in the series finale at Stanford on March 23.
The Utes hold a significant edge in recent performance. They have won seven of their last 10, while the Wolverines have lost nine of their last 12.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Utah 6, Utah Valley 3.
For Utah, this begins a stretch of four straight road games before returning to Salt Lake City. The Utes travel to Kansas for a three-game series starting Thursday.
Utah Valley opens Western Athletic Conference play this Thursday with a three-game series at Cal State Bakersfield.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT.
