SOUTH CAROLINA, GEORGIA SET FOR SEC SERIES FINALE
ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) — The South Carolina Gamecocks will look to salvage the final game of their Southeastern Conference series against the Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at Foley Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. EDT under clear skies with a temperature near 61 degrees.
The Bulldogs (22-6, 2-0 SEC) have taken the first two games of the series, winning 5-2 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday. Georgia’s pitching has stifled the Gamecocks (13-15, 0-2), allowing just three total runs.
A marquee pitching rematch is expected. South Carolina will start right-hander Amp Phillips (1-3, 2.48 ERA), who was the hard-luck loser Saturday. Phillips threw six no-hit innings but was charged with three earned runs, striking out nine. Over his last three starts, he has allowed just four earned runs in 19 innings with 18 strikeouts.
Georgia is projected to counter with right-hander Paul Farley (3-0, 2.70 ERA), who earned the win in relief Saturday. Farley tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out four. He has been a key multi-inning weapon for the Bulldogs’ bullpen.
The Bulldogs’ offense is led by center fielder Rylan Lujo, who went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs in Saturday’s victory.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-1 Georgia victory, giving the Bulldogs a 69% probability to win the series finale.
South Carolina seeks to avoid a sweep before returning home to face Wofford on Tuesday. Georgia will host Georgia State on Tuesday before traveling to Mississippi State for its next SEC series.
