SAN JOSE STATE, UNLV SET FOR MOUNTAIN WEST SHOWDOWN

LAS VEGAS (Interstat) — The San Jose State Spartans and UNLV Runnin’ Rebels will continue their Mountain West Conference series on Saturday at Earl Wilson Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for March 28, 2026. The Spartans (11-12) will look to even the series after dropping the opener to the Runnin’ Rebels (15-10) on Friday.

San Jose State enters riding the momentum of an 18-6 road victory at Santa Clara on Tuesday, a game in which center fielder Brent Cota went 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs. Cota, a key player to watch for the Spartans, has shown power recently, hitting two home runs with eight RBIs over his last 10 games, though his production has been inconsistent.

UNLV is looking to rebound after a tough 12-11 loss to Arizona State on Monday. Second baseman Marcos Rosales was a bright spot in that defeat, going 2 for 5 with a homer and four RBIs. Rosales has six RBIs in his last three games and will be a focal point of the Rebels’ lineup.

The Spartans have played several close games lately, including three extra-inning contests in their last seven outings. Their pitching staff delivered a shutout against New Mexico on March 15.

UNLV’s recent results have been volatile, with the team allowing 18, 15 and 16 runs in a three-game series at Air Force before a dominant 11-1 win over Utah Tech.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Saturday’s contest projects to be a high-scoring affair, with a predicted final score of San Jose State 7, UNLV 6.

The series concludes Sunday before both teams face non-conference opponents on Monday. San Jose State travels back to Santa Clara, while UNLV hosts Cal State Bakersfield.
