Nebraska at Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. (Interstat) — Two of the nation’s hottest teams will clash Tuesday when the Nebraska Cornhuskers visit the Kansas State Wildcats in a nonconference showdown at Tointon Family Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. CDT under cloudy skies with temperatures near 53 degrees.

The matchup features a pair of top-25 caliber squads riding strong momentum. Nebraska (18-6) arrives after taking three of four on the road at Michigan, including a 9-5 victory Sunday. Kansas State (16-6) is coming off a dominant 12-1 win over Arizona State on Sunday to salvage a series split.

A compelling pitcher’s duel is anticipated. Nebraska will look to right-hander Gavin Blachowicz, who has been exceptional in his last three starts. The junior is coming off four hitless innings of relief with four strikeouts against Michigan and has fanned 24 batters over his last 16 2/3 innings.

He will be opposed by Kansas State’s Lincoln Sheffield. The Wildcats’ ace was brilliant in his last outing, limiting Arizona State to one run on five hits over seven innings with six strikeouts. His season has been a mix of dominance and brief struggle, including a rough 3 2/3-inning outing at Houston on March 15.

The teams met earlier this season in Lincoln, with Kansas State claiming a 5-3, 10-inning victory on Feb. 21. Tuesday’s game offers Nebraska a chance for redemption on the road.

Both lineups are potent. Nebraska’s Jett Buck powered Sunday’s win with a grand slam, while Kansas State’s offense exploded for 12 runs behind multi-hit games from Shintaro Inoue and Ty Smolinski.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, this one could be a high-scoring affair, projecting a narrow 8-7 victory for Nebraska.

Following this midweek test, both teams jump into conference play this weekend. Nebraska hosts Indiana for a three-game set, while Kansas State travels to Utah.
