Texas-Rio Grande Valley at Texas State
SAN MARCOS, Texas (Interstat) — Two of the state’s hottest lineups will clash when Texas State hosts Texas-Rio Grande Valley in a non-conference midweek matchup Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark.
The Bobcats (15-8) enter riding a three-game winning streak after a dominant offensive weekend, sweeping Louisiana-Lafayette by a combined score of 31-11. Designated hitter Manny Salas powered the surge, going 6 for 12 with two home runs and seven RBIs in the series, including a 4-for-5, four-RBI performance in Sunday’s 16-6 rout.
The Vaqueros (13-11) are also swinging potent bats, coming off a three-game road sweep of Houston Christian where they scored 43 runs. Slugger Julius Ramirez drove in six runs on a home run in Sunday’s 16-5 victory, capping a series where UTRGV averaged over 14 runs per game.
Both teams have shown recent volatility, however. Texas State’s sweep followed a five-game skid, while UTRGV had dropped four of five before its offensive explosion at Houston Christian.
The game features a contrast in momentum, with the home-standing Bobcats looking to extend their streak and the Vaqueros aiming to carry their road success into San Marcos. According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Vaqueros are projected for an 8-5 victory.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 86 degrees.
Texas State begins Sun Belt Conference play at Georgia State on Friday. UTRGV opens Western Athletic Conference play at home against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday.
