UNC Greensboro at Liberty
LYNCHBURG, Va. (Interstat) — The Liberty Flames, riding a strong start to the season, will host the UNC Greensboro Spartans in a non-conference baseball matchup Tuesday evening at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for under clear skies with temperatures near 66 degrees.
Liberty (15-8) enters with a winning record built on solid pitching, while UNC Greensboro (11-14) looks to rebound from a series loss to East Tennessee State. The Flames won the previous meeting between the teams this season, 12-10, in Greensboro on March 10.
A key matchup will feature Liberty right-hander Bradley Zayac, who has been dominant in recent outings, against a UNC Greensboro lineup powered by designated hitter JJ Parsons. Zayac is coming off a hard-luck loss Sunday at Kennesaw State where he threw 6 2/3 innings of no-hit ball, allowing just one earned run. In his last four starts, he has a 1.93 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings.
Parsons provides the pop for the Spartans, coming off a 2-for-4, three-RBI performance that included a home run in Sunday’s 15-8 loss to ETSU. He has driven in eight runs over his last ten games.
The Flames’ offense will look to bounce back after being held to three runs on Sunday. They had scored 11 runs the previous day in a win over Kennesaw State.
Liberty’s bullpen will be tested after using multiple arms in the Kennesaw State series. UNC Greensboro relievers Ethan Nobles and Jake Colucci provided scoreless outings in their last game.
According to Interstat, Liberty is projected as a significant favorite with a 66.2% probability to win. Their game simulator predicts a narrow 6-5 victory for the Flames.
Following this midweek contest, Liberty opens a three-game home series against Florida International on Friday. UNC Greensboro begins a Southern Conference series at Wofford on Friday.
