Massachusetts-Lowell at Merrimack

Rainy Showdown Set for Merrimack Baseball Diamond

ANDOVER, Mass. (Interstat) — A chilly, wet evening awaits as the Merrimack Warriors host the Massachusetts-Lowell River Hawks in a non-conference baseball matchup Tuesday at Merrimack Baseball Diamond.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under forecasted conditions of 36 degrees and rain. The game pits two regional foes with nearly identical records, as Merrimack (9-10) holds a slight edge over UMass Lowell (8-11).

The River Hawks arrive after a high-scoring, losing weekend at Binghamton, dropping two of three games despite scoring 27 runs in the series. Their offense runs through second baseman Jorge Burgos, who is coming off a powerful performance. In Sunday’s 14-10 loss, Burgos went 1 for 5 with a home run and five RBIs. Over his last 10 games, he has two homers and eight RBIs.

Merrimack looks to rebound from a 14-3 road loss at Canisius on Saturday. A player to watch for the Warriors is pitcher James Borsari. In his last outing on March 21, also against Canisius, Borsari threw five scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits. For the season, he has a 0.00 ERA over 10 innings pitched across three appearances, striking out five.

Both bullpens may be tested early following weekend series. UMass Lowell relievers Frankie DeMaro and Colin Ducie each provided scoreless outings in Sunday’s loss. For Merrimack, AJ Holmes pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts in Saturday’s defeat.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Merrimack 7, Massachusetts-Lowell 5.

This begins a busy stretch for both teams. UMass Lowell hosts Northeastern on Wednesday before a three-game series at Maine this weekend. Merrimack travels to face Boston College on Wednesday, then opens a four-game homestand against Manhattan starting Friday.
