Northwestern State at Louisiana-Monroe

MONROE, La. (Interstat) — Two teams riding the momentum of weekend series wins will meet Tuesday when the Northwestern State Demons visit the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks in a non-conference baseball matchup at Warhawk Field.

First pitch is set for the evening under cloudy skies with temperatures near 69 degrees.

The Demons (15-9) enter after taking two of three from New Orleans, capped by a 6-5 win Sunday. The Warhawks (14-11) arrive following a road series at South Alabama where they also secured two victories, including a 9-6 win Saturday.

A key matchup will feature Northwestern State’s steady starting pitching against Louisiana-Monroe’s potent offense. Demons right-hander Trent Hillen has been a workhorse, earning wins in his last four starts. Over that span, he has struck out 30 batters in 24 2/3 innings while allowing 12 earned runs.

The Warhawks will counter with a lineup powered by catcher Zach White. He is coming off a weekend where he homered and has driven in runs in four of his last nine games, including a 3-for-4, two-RBI performance in a 16-5 rout of Texas State on March 15.

This is a rematch of a high-scoring affair from February 17, which Northwestern State won 13-10 in Natchitoches. Both teams have shown offensive firepower this season, with ULM scoring 10 or more runs seven times and the Demons doing so five times.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest projects as another offensive showdown, with a predicted final score of Northwestern State 8, Louisiana-Monroe 7.

Following this midweek clash, both teams dive back into conference play. Northwestern State travels to Nicholls State for a three-game series starting Friday. Louisiana-Monroe heads to in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette for a weekend series, also beginning Friday.
