Georgia Southern at Charleston Southern
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — A surging Charleston Southern team hosts a struggling Georgia Southern squad in a nonconference matchup Tuesday at Buccaneer Ballpark.
The Buccaneers (16-7) have won 10 of their last 13 games and are coming off a 14-4 rout of Gardner-Webb on Sunday. Third baseman Blake Edgmon and left fielder Alex Marot, who homered and drove in three runs in the win, have been key contributors. Marot is batting .500 (7 for 14) with a home run and seven RBIs over his last five games.
The Eagles (6-17) snapped a five-game skid with an 18-12 offensive explosion against Marshall on Sunday. Right fielder James McCoy was the catalyst, going a perfect 5 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs. McCoy is on a tear, hitting .581 (18 for 31) with four homers and 18 RBIs over his last eight games.
Despite the Eagles’ recent offensive spark, they face a tall order against a Buccaneers program enjoying its best start in years. Charleston Southern has been strong at home, going 10-3 at Buccaneer Ballpark this season.
The weather forecast calls for evening clouds and a first-pitch temperature of 81 degrees.
Projections are split. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a narrow 5-4 victory for Charleston Southern, while its ELO rating system gives Georgia Southern a slight edge with a 54.9% probability to win.
Georgia Southern visits the College of Charleston on Wednesday. Charleston Southern opens a Big South Conference series at Winthrop on Friday.
