Sun Devils Survive Late Rally, Edge Runnin’ Rebels in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (Interstat) — The Arizona State Sun Devils built a 12-run lead and then held off a furious comeback by the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels to win 12-11 on Monday night at T-Mobile Arena.

Arizona State (18-6) scored in each of the first five innings, capitalizing on wild pitches and timely hitting. Dominic Smaldino drove in three runs and PJ Moutzouridis added two RBIs. Starter Easton Barrett was dominant, striking out nine over five hitless innings.

UNLV (15-10) erupted for eight runs in the eighth, highlighted by a grand slam from Marcos Rosales, who finished with four RBIs. Drew Barragan went 4 for 5 with two RBIs. The rally fell just short as Arizona State relievers Taylor Penn and Brady Louck closed the door. The Sun Devils finished with 12 hits to UNLV’s 11.
