New Orleans at Tulane
Preview: New Orleans Privateers at Tulane Green Wave
NEW ORLEANS (Interstat) — City rivals will meet under the roof of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center on Tuesday night as the Tulane Green Wave hosts the New Orleans Privateers in a non-conference baseball matchup.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CDT on March 17. The game will be played indoors, negating a forecast of cloudy skies and 50-degree temperatures outside.
Both teams enter with nearly identical records. The visiting Privateers are 9-12 overall, while the Green Wave sits at 9-11.
New Orleans won the first meeting this season, an 11-3 victory at home on Feb. 24. The Privateers are coming off an 11-7 win over Incarnate Word on Sunday, powered by a 1-for-3, four-RBI performance that included a home run from left fielder Eddie Castillo. Castillo has been a key bat, homering twice and driving in six runs over his last five games.
Tulane looks to snap a three-game skid after dropping a weekend series to Creighton, including a 5-4 loss on Sunday. Reliever Sam Larson has been a bright spot for the Green Wave bullpen. Over his last three appearances, spanning seven innings, he has allowed just one hit and zero earned runs while striking out seven.
On the mound Sunday, New Orleans starter Bryson Goff worked five innings, allowing four earned runs in the win. Tulane’s Jake Toporek pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief, giving up one run, and shortstop KaiKea Harrison hit a two-run homer in the losing effort.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Privateers are projected to win a low-scoring affair, 4-2.
Following Tuesday’s game, Tulane will host Northwestern State on Wednesday. New Orleans travels to face Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday.
