Wofford at Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. (Interstat) — Two teams heading in opposite directions will meet Tuesday when the Wofford Terriers visit the Presbyterian Blue Hose at the Presbyterian Baseball Complex.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT under foreboding skies, with a game-time forecast of 59 degrees and rain.

Wofford (13-8) enters on a strong run, having won three of its last four, including a 5-2 victory over Princeton on Sunday. The Terriers’ bullpen has been a key strength, anchored by versatile right-hander Champ Davis. Over his last nine appearances, Davis has posted a 2.45 ERA in 22 innings, allowing just 18 hits while striking out 21. He threw three scoreless innings of relief in Sunday’s win.

Presbyterian (3-16) is looking to build on a rare bright spot: an 11-0 rout of UNC Asheville on Saturday. Right-hander Christian Charalambous was dominant in that outing, firing a complete-game, four-hit shutout with seven strikeouts. However, consistency has been an issue; in his two starts prior, he surrendered 11 earned runs over 7 1/3 innings.

The Blue Hose have struggled mightily outside of that shutout win, having been outscored 92-30 in their other seven March games. Their offense will be tested by a Wofford pitching staff that has held opponents to three runs or fewer in four of its last six games.

For Wofford, Ben Timblin, who drove in two runs Sunday, will look to provide offensive support alongside a lineup that scored 13 runs in a win over College of Charleston last week. Presbyterian will hope for repeat performances from Nick Smith, who hit a home run and had four RBIs in the Asheville win, and Andrew Albertus.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Wofford is projected to win 6-1.

Following this midweek contest, Wofford travels to Xavier for a three-game series starting Friday. Presbyterian opens a three-game series at High Point on Friday.
