Sacramento State at Pacific
STOCKTON, Calif. (March 14, 2026) (Interstat) — The Sacramento State Hornets and Pacific Tigers will continue their recent, lopsided series when they meet Saturday at Klein Family Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. under cloudy skies with a forecast temperature of 75 degrees.
The Hornets (6-11) and Tigers (6-10) have split two meetings this season, with each winning decisively on the road. Pacific took an 8-7 win in Stockton on Feb. 25, but Sacramento State responded with a 10-0 rout in Sacramento on Wednesday. The Hornets also won Friday’s series opener, 10-0.
A key rematch on the mound highlights Saturday’s contest. Sacramento State will look to right-hander Ethan Lay, who dominated the Tigers on March 11, tossing seven shutout innings with two hits allowed and six strikeouts. Lay has been inconsistent, however, surrendering seven earned runs over his other seven innings pitched across three appearances this month.
Pacific is expected to counter with reliever Maddox Moreno, who pitched two scoreless innings against the Hornets in the Feb. 25 victory. Moreno’s recent outings have been a struggle, as he has been charged with nine earned runs in his last 9 1/3 innings over three appearances, including one run in two innings against Sac State on Wednesday.
Offensively, the Hornets will aim to build on Wednesday’s breakout, led by third baseman Jakob Poturnak, who went 3 for 4 with a home run in that game.
Projections for the contest are split. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 3-2 Pacific victory, while its ELO rating system gives Sacramento State a 71.3% probability to win.
The series concludes Sunday in Stockton.
