COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Interstat) — The surging UNLV Runnin’ Rebels will look to extend their winning ways when they visit the struggling Air Force Falcons to open a three-game Mountain West series on Friday.

First pitch at Falcon Baseball Field is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. MDT under cloudy skies with temperatures near 62 degrees.

UNLV (13-5) enters on a high note after a dramatic 11-10 home victory over UC Riverside on Tuesday. The Rebels have won seven of their last nine games, showcasing a potent offense that has averaged over eight runs per contest during that stretch.

A key catalyst has been shortstop Gunnar Myro. He drove in four runs in Tuesday’s win and is 10 for 24 (.417) with seven RBIs over his last seven games. Outfielder Reggie Bussey, who had three hits and three RBIs against UC Riverside, provides additional firepower.

Air Force (3-11) seeks to halt a four-game skid after being swept at Baylor last weekend. The Falcons’ pitching staff has faced consistent pressure, allowing an average of 8.4 runs in their 11 losses.

A player to watch for the Falcons is right-hander Bowen Brantingham. In his last start Sunday at Baylor, he pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs with four strikeouts. He delivered a strong outing at South Carolina on Feb. 22, tossing 4 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

The series marks the start of Mountain West play for both teams. According to Interstat’s game simulator, UNLV is projected to win Friday’s opener 8-1.

The teams will meet again Saturday and Sunday to complete the series.
