Ethan Lay Dominates as Hornets Rout Tigers for 10‑0 Victory
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — Ethan Lay tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out six, to lead Sacramento State to a 10-0 rout of Pacific in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday at John Smith Field.
The Hornets broke open a tight game with a six-run seventh inning, capitalizing on two Pacific errors to score five unearned runs. Jakob Poturnak led the offense, going 3 for 4 with a solo home run in the second inning. Sam Harry and Erick Dessens each drove in two runs.
Pacific managed only two hits off Lay and three relievers. The Tigers used six pitchers, with starter Maddox Moreno taking the loss.
Both teams are now 6-11 this season. The Hornets avenged an 8-7 loss to Pacific on Feb. 25. The teams continue their series Friday.
