Xavier at Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. (Interstat) — The Xavier Musketeers will look to avoid a series sweep when they face the Oregon State Beavers in a Monday afternoon matchup at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. PDT under cloudy skies with temperatures near 47 degrees.

The Beavers (9-4) have dominated the early-weekend series, winning 7-2 on Saturday and 4-2 on Friday. Interstat’s game simulator projects an Oregon State victory, 7-3.

Xavier (5-9) will turn to right-hander Jack Nobe to halt its skid. Nobe has been a hard-luck pitcher of late, taking the loss Saturday despite not allowing a hit over 5 1/3 innings; four walks led to four earned runs. In his previous start, a 3-2 win at Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 28, he threw six scoreless innings.

Oregon State counters with right-hander Ethan Kleinschmit, who earned the win Saturday. He allowed two earned runs on four hits over five innings. His season has been uneven, however, following that outing with a loss to Alabama on Feb. 28 where he surrendered five earned runs in three innings.

The Musketeers’ offense, which managed just two runs in each of the series’ first two games, will need more production. Shortstop Eddie Peters drove in both runs Saturday. The Beavers’ bullpen has been stout, with Noah Scott providing three scoreless innings of relief in the latest win. Catcher Jacob Galloway went 2 for 2 with three RBIs.

After Monday, Xavier travels to Eugene for two midweek games against Oregon. Oregon State begins a three-game road series at San Diego on Friday.
