Pacific at Nevada

RENO, Nev. (Interstat) — The Pacific Tigers and Nevada Wolf Pack will conclude their three-game series Sunday at William Peccole Park, with first pitch scheduled for the afternoon.

The series is tied after Nevada (6-5) won 11-7 on Friday and Pacific (6-7) evened it with a victory Saturday. Sunday’s finale is projected to be another close contest; Interstat’s game simulator forecasts a 6-5 Pacific win.

The pitching matchup features two of the series’ opening-game starters in a quick rematch. Pacific will send right-hander Zach Todd to the mound. In Friday’s loss, Todd had a stark line: 5.0 innings pitched, allowing zero hits but four earned runs with five strikeouts. Over his last three outings, he has a 2.40 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 15.0 innings.

Nevada will counter with right-hander Mahiro Tomita, who earned the win Friday. He held the Tigers to one earned run on four hits over 5.2 innings, striking out five. In his previous start on Feb. 27 at UC Davis, Tomita threw 5.0 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.

Offensively, Nevada’s Lee Matsuzaki, who went 3-for-3 with an RBI Friday, and shortstop Jackson Waller (1-for-3, 3 RBIs) look to continue their production. For Pacific, first baseman Jake Tandy drove in two runs in the series opener.

Both teams enter with identical 6-5 records over their last 11 games. Following Sunday’s contest, Pacific travels to face Sacramento State on Wednesday. Nevada hits the road for a midweek game at Stanford.

First pitch is set for afternoon under cloudy skies with temperatures near 55 degrees.
