Tennessee Powers Past East Tennessee State Behind Early Offense
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — Henry Ford homered and drove in two runs as Tennessee defeated East Tennessee State 7-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Volunteers (9-3) scored four runs in the first inning and never trailed. Ford’s two-run homer in the sixth provided the final margin. Reese Chapman added three hits and an RBI for Tennessee, which finished with 11 hits.
The Buccaneers (9-3) scored their lone run on a first-inning sacrifice fly but were held to six hits by five Tennessee pitchers. Brady Frederick, Cam Appenzeller and Bo Rhudy combined for seven scoreless innings of relief with 12 strikeouts.
