Tulane at Nicholls State
THIBODAUX, La. (Interstat) — The surging Tulane Green Wave will look to continue their early-season momentum when they visit the Nicholls State Colonels in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night at Ray E. Didier Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. under clear skies with temperatures around 55 degrees.
Tulane (8-4) enters on a high note after taking three of four in a weekend series against Eastern Kentucky, capped by an 11-3 victory Sunday. The Green Wave’s offense has been potent, scoring 10 or more runs in four of their eight wins.
A key catalyst has been third baseman Matthias Haas. The sophomore is riding a six-game hitting streak and is coming off a performance Sunday where he went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs. Over his last 10 games, Haas has driven in 10 runs.
Nicholls State (4-8) snapped a three-game skid with a 3-2 win over McNeese State on Sunday. The Colonels have struggled for consistency but have shown flashes, including a 15-run outburst against Tennessee-Martin last week.
The Colonels will rely on right-hander Haden Luke, who earned the win Sunday with 5 1/3 strong innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts. Luke has been a workhorse, making two starts in the last 10 days.
Tulane’s pitching staff, which saw effective outings from Jack Frankel and Jack Brafa in relief on Sunday, will aim to contain a Nicholls State lineup that has been held to three runs or fewer in half of its games this season.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Tulane is projected to win 7-4.
The game is the first of a busy 10-game stretch for Nicholls State before Southland Conference play begins in earnest. The Colonels travel to Southern Mississippi on Wednesday.
Tulane continues a road swing before hosting a three-game series against Creighton starting Friday. This midweek contest serves as a final tune-up before that weekend set.
