NORMAN, Okla. (Interstat) — Karsten Sweum and Landon Hood combined on a three-hit shutout through eight innings Sunday as Gonzaga stunned seventh-ranked Oklahoma 7-1 at L. Dale Mitchell Baseball Park, avoiding a series sweep.

Sweum, the Bulldogs’ starter, dominated over six innings, allowing no hits and one unearned run while striking out seven. Hood followed with three perfect innings and seven strikeouts to seal the win. Oklahoma’s lone run came on a Brendan Brock solo homer in the sixth.

Gonzaga, which managed just five total runs in the series’ first two games, broke through in the third on a two-run homer from Mikey Bell and added five runs in the ninth. The Bulldogs improved to 3-7, while the Sooners fell to 10-2.
