UNC Wilmington at Charleston Southern

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — The unbeaten Charleston Southern Buccaneers will put their perfect start on the line when they host the UNC Wilmington Seahawks in a non-conference baseball matchup Wednesday evening at Buccaneer Ballpark.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 47 degrees.

Charleston Southern (7-0) is off to its best start in recent memory, coming off a three-game sweep of Elon where the offense averaged eight runs per game. The Buccaneers’ lineup is powered by first baseman Chandler Tuupo, who drove in nine runs in the series, including a 3-for-4, six-RBI performance with a home run in Sunday’s 12-7 win.

UNC Wilmington (3-3) looks to rebound after a 6-3 home loss to Duke on Tuesday. The Seahawks’ strength has been pitching, notably in a doubleheader sweep of Fordham last Saturday where they allowed zero runs over 18 innings.

A key matchup will feature Seahawks right-hander Bromley Thornton, who is coming off a dominant outing. On Sunday, Thornton tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out seven in a 7-0 win over Fordham. How he navigates a hot Buccaneers order will be critical.

The teams are scheduled to meet again in Wilmington on March 10.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projection favors the home team, predicting a 7-4 victory for Charleston Southern.

Following this game, Charleston Southern begins a three-game home series against Brown on Friday. UNC Wilmington returns home to open a three-game set against Connecticut on Friday.
