Mississippi Valley State at Jacksonville State
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (Interstat) — The Jacksonville State Gamecocks will look to extend their winning streak and continue their dominant start when they host the struggling Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils in an evening matchup Wednesday at Rudy Abbott Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures around 49 degrees.
Jacksonville State (6-2) enters riding a four-game win streak, including a 15-3 rout of these same Delta Devils on Tuesday. The Gamecocks’ offense has been potent during the streak, averaging 8.5 runs per game. Key contributors in the series opener included Greg LaChance, Sam Richardson and Caleb Johnson.
Mississippi Valley State (0-5) seeks its first victory of the season after being outscored 75-13 through five games. The Delta Devils have lost 10 consecutive games dating back to last season. In Tuesday’s loss, Cody Leming, Isreal Ramos and Christopher Soeder provided brief offensive sparks for MVSU.
The Gamecocks’ early success has been built on strong pitching, allowing three or fewer runs in five of their eight games. Their schedule has included series wins over Toledo and Cincinnati.
The Delta Devils’ difficult opening stretch has featured a four-game sweep at Stephen F. Austin where they were outscored 56-10 before this midweek series in Alabama.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-1 Jacksonville State victory.
Following Wednesday’s contest, Jacksonville State travels to Memphis for a three-game series starting Friday. Mississippi Valley State continues its lengthy road trip with a weekend series at UNC Asheville in Jackson, Mississippi, beginning Friday.
