Florida International at Florida
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — Two of the state’s hottest teams will meet Wednesday when the Florida Gators host the Florida International Golden Panthers in a midweek nonconference clash at Alfred A. McKethan Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under clear skies with temperatures around 50 degrees.
The Gators (7-1) enter on a seven-game winning streak, including a weekend sweep of Kennesaw State. Florida’s offense has been potent, averaging 9.6 runs during the streak. First baseman Ethan Surowiec has been a key catalyst, driving in 10 runs over the last four games, including a two-home run, four-RBI performance on Feb. 20.
The Golden Panthers (6-2) aim to bounce back from a 20-17 shootout loss to Holy Cross on Sunday. Despite the defeat, FIU’s lineup showed its power, led by outfielder Luca Reyes. Reyes is in the midst of a torrid stretch, having gone 6 for 15 with three home runs and 13 RBIs over his last four games.
These in-state foes just met Tuesday, with Florida claiming a victory. Wednesday’s game offers a quick turnaround and a chance for FIU to split the brief series.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a tight, high-scoring affair with Florida edging FIU 7-6.
The game serves as a final tune-up before both teams embark on challenging weekend series. Florida travels to face rival Miami (FL) for three games starting Friday, while FIU hosts Stony Brook for a three-game set beginning Friday.
