Indiana State at Florida Gulf Coast
FORT MYERS, Fla. (Interstat) — The red-hot Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, one of the nation’s last remaining unbeaten teams, will look to extend their perfect start when they host the Indiana State Sycamores in a non-conference baseball matchup Wednesday at Swanson Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for the evening under clear skies with temperatures around 55 degrees.
The Eagles (7-0) have powered their way to an unblemished record, averaging over nine runs per game. They are coming off a three-game sweep of Stonehill, outscoring the Skyhawks 28-10. The lineup is anchored by catcher Jon Embury, who is in the midst of a torrid power streak. Over his last four games, Embury is 9-for-17 (.529) with five home runs and nine RBIs.
Indiana State (3-4) arrives after splitting a four-game road trip, most recently defeating Massachusetts-Lowell 10-2 on Sunday. The Sycamores will look to rebound after falling 4-0 to these same Eagles on Tuesday.
A key player to watch for the Sycamores is pitcher Ty Brooks, who delivered a dominant performance last time out. On Sunday against UMass-Lowell, Brooks threw eight hitless, scoreless innings, striking out seven. How Indiana State deploys him will be a focal point.
The Eagles’ pitching staff, which held the Sycamores scoreless on Tuesday, will aim to cool off an Indiana State offense that produced 10 runs and 14 hits in its last victory. Jeremy Martinez and Nick Sutherlin each homered in that win.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projection favors the home team with a predicted final score of Florida Gulf Coast 7, Indiana State 4.
Following this game, Florida Gulf Coast will prepare for a three-game home series against Boston College beginning Friday. Indiana State will travel to Nassau, Bahamas, for a three-game set against Penn State starting Friday.
