Payne Powers Wildcats to Rout in Series Rebound
ABILENE, Texas (Interstat) — Zandt Payne homered twice and drove in five runs as Abilene Christian pounded Oral Roberts 12-3 on Saturday evening at Kimbrell Arena, avenging a loss from the previous night.
The Wildcats scored nine unanswered runs across the second, third and fourth innings to break open the game. Payne’s grand slam in the second erased an early deficit and his solo shot in the eighth capped the scoring.
Aidan Coleman earned the win, allowing two earned runs over five innings. Makani Tanaka and Cooper Combs hit solo homers for the Golden Eagles, who managed only five hits.
Abilene Christian improved to 3-2. Oral Roberts fell to 3-3. The teams conclude their three-game series Sunday.
