San Luis Potosi at Zacatecas
JEREZ DE GARCÍA SALINAS, Mexico (Interstat) — Zacatecas will host San Luis Potosi on Wednesday at Marcelino Gonzalez, aiming to continue its strong season and sweep the recent series between the teams.
Zacatecas enters with a 12-7 record. San Luis Potosi, nicknamed the Santos, is 6-14. The home team won the most recent meeting 96-75, a result that highlighted the production of Tavario Miller and a balanced Zacatecas attack.
Miller is a player to watch for Zacatecas. In the most recent meeting, he finished with 19 points and six rebounds. He has remained active on the boards and around the basket, with recent efforts that include 19 points and 12 rebounds against Abejas, 10 points and three rebounds in another game against Abejas, and 18 points and nine rebounds in a high-scoring result at Fuerza Regia. Wesley Saunders added 10 points, eight rebounds and nine assists in the last meeting, while K. Goncalves scored 19 points.
San Luis Potosi will look to Nicholas Ward for production. Ward had 16 points, 13 rebounds and two assists in the most recent meeting. His recent stretch includes 18 points and 10 rebounds against Freseros, 11 points and three rebounds at Abejas, and 10 rebounds in another game at Abejas. Javion Blake scored 18 points in the last meeting, and Andrew Harrison added 13 points.
The Santos have produced 108 points in a win over Irapuato and 96 points in another victory over Irapuato. They also earned a one-point road win at Leon earlier this season. San Luis Potosi carries a 6-14 record into the road game at Marcelino Gonzalez.
Zacatecas owns a 12-7 record and has won recent games against Lobos Plateados, Dorados and Aguascalientes. Zacatecas also defeated San Luis Potosi in the most recent head-to-head matchup, using a strong overall effort to pull away. Saunders’ playmaking and Goncalves’ scoring gave Zacatecas additional options beyond Miller.
San Luis Potosi will need Ward to control the glass and Blake and Harrison to provide scoring support. The Santos also will need to limit Zacatecas’ second-chance opportunities and handle pressure on the road. Zacatecas will aim to establish Miller inside and use its depth to wear down the visiting side.
The game is scheduled for Wednesday at Marcelino Gonzalez in Jerez de García Salinas, Mexico.
Interstat’s game simulator projects Zacatecas to win 85-79. Interstat’s ELO system gives Zacatecas a 78.8 percent probability to win.
