Dorados at Aguascalientes

AGUASCALIENTES (Interstat)—The Dorados will visit the Panteras on Friday at Hermanos Carreon in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Aguascalientes enters with a 13-4 record and has been one of the league’s stronger home teams. Aguascalientes has won its last three games. The Panteras are coming off a 91-85 victory over Dorados in the most recent meeting between the clubs. Shaun Willett powered that win with 25 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and one block. Ahmed Hill added 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a block, while J. De La Serna recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds. Willett has been the primary focus for opposing defenses, and his recent form includes a 25-point, 15-rebound effort during a road win at Freseros. He also had 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three blocks in another recent outing.

Dorados enter at 8-10 and are looking for consistency on both ends. Dorados have lost their last three games. Markeith Cummings is the player to watch for the visiting side. In the most recent matchup against Aguascalientes, Cummings scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds. He followed that with 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and a block against Soles, and had 12 points, three rebounds and a block in the game before that. Mikhael Alexander Mckinney also scored 16 points and dished out five assists in the last meeting, while Alfonzo Mckinnie added 12 points and eight rebounds. Dorados will need that supporting production to complement Cummings if they hope to keep pace.

The game will be played at Hermanos Carreon. Aguascalientes has scored at least 94 points in several recent wins, including a 104-88 home victory over San Luis Potosi and a 111-78 home win over Correcaminos. Aguascalientes has scored at least 91 points in each of those wins. Dorados have posted some high-scoring wins this season but have also dropped recent road contests. Dorados have scored 85 or fewer points in their last three games. Dorados will look to limit second-chance points and avoid turnovers.

Dorados are set to continue their road stretch at Irapuato next, while Aguascalientes will return home to face Diablos Rojos in their following games. But the focus remains on Friday, when the Panteras will try to protect home court and extend their recent edge in the series. Dorados will counter with Cummings and a group that showed balance in the last meeting but could not close the gap late.

Interstat’s game simulator projects Aguascalientes to win 92-83. The ELO system gives Aguascalientes a 71.6 percent probability of victory. The projections favor Aguascalientes at home.
