Aguascalientes at Irapuato

IRAPUATO (Interstat) — The Aguascalientes Panteras will look to continue their strong start to the Mexican LNBP season Saturday when they visit Irapuato. Aguascalientes enters 11-4, while Irapuato is 7-9.

Aguascalientes’ Christian Negron is a player to watch. In the Panteras’ recent win at Freseros, Negron finished with 17 points, five rebounds, two assists and three blocks in 28 minutes. He also had six points, four rebounds and a block in a road loss at Soles, and eight points, six rebounds and a block in a home win over Astros. Negron’s length and activity around the rim give Aguascalientes an interior presence on both ends. In the last matchup with Irapuato, he scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds, handed out two assists and blocked three shots. A. Curbelo added 13 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Ahmed Hill scored 19 points with five rebounds and two assists in that 94-87 Aguascalientes win.

Irapuato’s Derek Fountain will be central to the home side’s chances. Fountain scored 24 points and collected seven rebounds in 28 minutes against the Panteras in the most recent head-to-head meeting. He also had seven rebounds and two blocks against Soles and six rebounds and two assists in another game against Soles. Billy Garrett supported with 20 points, two rebounds and six assists in the last meeting, and Christians Gutierrez added 12 points, two rebounds and two assists. Irapuato will need that supporting production again to counter Aguascalientes’ balanced attack.

The Panteras’ season has included wins over Correcaminos, San Luis Potosi, Leon and Cancun El Calor, along with a split against Zacatecas. Irapuato has wins over Lobos Plateados, Gambusinos and Cancun El Calor, but recent results have been uneven. The club will try to use home court to snap a difficult stretch. Aguascalientes will aim to build on its road victory in the previous meeting and maintain momentum in the LNBP standings.

After Saturday, Aguascalientes is set to host Dorados and Diablos Rojos in upcoming home games. Irapuato is scheduled to visit San Luis Potosi before hosting Dorados. The matchup could hinge on whether Irapuato can contain Negron inside and whether Fountain can produce another high-scoring effort. Aguascalientes’ record and recent head-to-head success give it an advantage, but Irapuato has shown enough offense to challenge if its key players find rhythm.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Irapuato 46, Aguascalientes 45. Interstat’s ELO system, however, gives Aguascalientes a 71.6 percent probability to win. That projection places the Panteras as the stronger percentage play despite the simulator’s narrow score prediction.
