Saskatoon vs. Winnipeg
Headline: Sea Bears host undefeated Saskatoon after tough road loss
WINNIPEG, MB (Interstat) — The Winnipeg Sea Bears (0-1) will look to even their record when they host the Saskatoon (0-0) on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at Canada Life Centre in a Canadian Elite Basketball League matchup.
Saskatoon enters with a 0-0 record after opening the season with a 107-97 win over Edmonton on July 31. Winnipeg, meanwhile, dropped its most recent game 114-90 at Fraser Valley on Aug. 2, falling to 0-1.
Saskatoon forward Jamir Chaplin has been a focal point of the offense. In the win against Edmonton, Chaplin played 25 minutes, scoring 20 points with 7 rebounds and 1 block. Prior to that, he posted 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks in a 104-97 loss at Fraser Valley on July 25, and 22 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in a 116-99 win at Calgary on July 19.
Winnipeg will lean on guard Emmanuel Akot, who led the Sea Bears with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block in the loss at Fraser Valley. Akot has been a consistent scorer, putting up 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in a 100-92 win over Ottawa on July 31. In that game, Xavier Moon added 15 points and 6 rebounds, while Teddy Allen contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds. However, in the game at Fraser Valley, Winnipeg surrendered 114 points while managing just 90.
The Sea Bears have struggled to find consistency, losing four of their last six games. Akot also had a 9-point, 4-rebound effort in an 86-88 loss to Hamilton on July 25, and an 11-point, 7-rebound game in a 93-85 loss at Calgary on July 17. Winnipeg’s defense has been a concern, allowing 100 or more points in four consecutive losses.
Saskatoon, by contrast, has yet to lose. Beyond Chaplin, the team has shown balance, though no other statistical leaders were provided for its opener. The squad’s undefeated start gives it an early edge in the Western Conference standings.
The matchup marks the first meeting of the season between these two teams. Saskatoon’s schedule has been road-heavy so far, with all three of its games away from home. Winnipeg returns to Canada Life Centre, where it has split its recent contests, including a 100-92 win over Ottawa and a 77-92 loss to Fraser Valley on July 23.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The game will be available to stream on the CEBL’s digital platform.
