San Luis Potosi vs. Correcaminos
CIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico (Interstat) — The Santos de San Luis Potosi visit Correcaminos on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Gimnasio Multidisciplinario UAT Victoria in an LNBP matchup that opens the regular season for both teams.
Both clubs enter with 0-0 records in the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional. The teams met Friday, with San Luis Potosi winning 91-78 on the same court, but that game came before the start of regular-season standings. San Luis Potosi will aim to make it two straight against Correcaminos after Friday’s road result.
Jermaine Haley has been San Luis Potosi’s most consistent option. In a 95-80 win over Zacatecas on July 24, he played 29 minutes and finished with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. The previous night, he logged 33 minutes in an 87-86 victory, posting 6 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. His ability to create for others will be important against a Correcaminos backcourt anchored by Damien Daniels.
Daniels is coming off a pair of road losses at Leon. He scored 12 points and added 6 rebounds and 5 assists in 31 minutes on July 24, and in 18 minutes on July 23 he contributed 4 rebounds and 3 assists. For Correcaminos to win, Daniels will need to apply pressure on both ends and limit turnovers. His workload could grow Saturday after his shorter outing in the previous game.
Interstat’s ELO projections give Correcaminos a 62.70 percent probability of winning, despite San Luis Potosi’s recent head-to-head success. The model factors in home-court advantage and team performance entering the opener.
The two teams begin demanding stretches after Saturday. San Luis Potosi hosts Cancun El Calor on Aug. 5 and Aug. 6, then visits Jal. Astros on Aug. 11 and Aug. 12. The Santos return home to face Soles on Aug. 15-16 before road games at Aguascalientes on Aug. 20-21. They then host Dorados on Aug. 24 and Diablos Rojos on Aug. 25.
Correcaminos travel to Zacatecas on Aug. 5-6 and to Irapuato on Aug. 10-11, then host Cancun El Calor on Aug. 15-16 before visiting Jal. Astros on Aug. 20. They host Soles on Aug. 24-25 and close the stretch at Aguascalientes on Aug. 28.
Saturday’s game gives both teams an early benchmark in the LNBP season, with San Luis Potosi looking to validate Friday’s result and Correcaminos seeking a home-court rebound in front of its fans.
