Cancun El Calor vs. Correcaminos

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico (Interstat) — Correcaminos will try to return the favor Sunday when they host Cancun El Calor in an LNBP matchup at Gimnasio Multidisciplinario UAT Victoria.

The teams meet for the second consecutive day after Cancun El Calor posted a 90-83 road victory Saturday. That result dropped Correcaminos to 2-4 on the season, while Cancun improved to 2-3.

Correcaminos have lost four of their past five games. Their lone win during that stretch came Tuesday, when they edged Irapuato 86-83 on the road. In five other results this season, Correcaminos have shown a pattern: they beat San Luis Potosi 93-58 on Aug. 1, then lost four straight before beating Irapuato and losing Saturday’s rematch with Cancun.

Cancun El Calor opened the season with a win, but they had dropped three consecutive games before Saturday’s victory. Their season results include an 89-84 overtime win at San Luis Potosi on Aug. 5, followed by losses to San Luis Potosi, Zacatecas twice, and then the win over Correcaminos.

For Cancun El Calor, guard Brevin Galloway is a player to watch. Galloway has scored in double figures in four of his past six games and reached 19 points in three of those outings. He also had 19 points in back-to-back performances against Lobos Plateados on July 23 and Zacatecas on Aug. 11. His ability to create scoring opportunities will be important for an El Calor team seeking consecutive wins for the first time this season.

Correcaminos will lean on Juan Reyna, who has been their most consistent offensive threat. Reyna scored 23 points with four rebounds and three assists Tuesday against Irapuato, and he had 27 points against San Luis Potosi on Aug. 1. In his past seven games, Reyna has reached double figures five times, with a 10-point outing at Zacatecas and a 12-point effort there the following night. He also contributed 18 points and seven rebounds at Irapuato on Aug. 10.

Saturday’s head-to-head result marked the most recent meeting between these franchises, so both teams will have fresh scouting reports.

Interstat’s ELO system gives Correcaminos a 57.40 percent probability to win Sunday’s game. Correcaminos will look to protect home court and even their record, while Cancun El Calor aims to build momentum after snapping their losing streak in the same building one night earlier.

Both teams have upcoming road trips: Cancun El Calor plays at Irapuato on Wednesday, and Correcaminos travel to face Jal. Astros on Thursday.
