Cancun El Calor vs. San Luis Potosi
SAN LUIS POTOSI, Mexico (Interstat) — Two nights after escaping with an overtime victory, Cancun El Calor will try to complete a two-game sweep of the San Luis Potosi Santos on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, in a Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional matchup at Auditorio General Miguel Barragan.
El Calor won Wednesday’s series opener 89-84 in overtime and enters the rematch with a 1-0 record. The Santos remain winless at 0-2, having opened with a 93-58 loss at Correcaminos on Aug. 1 before falling by five in overtime Wednesday.
Francis King has been a player to watch for Cancun. In his two most recent listed games, both at Lobos Plateados, King logged heavy minutes and filled the stat sheet. On July 24, he played 29 minutes and finished with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and one blocked shot in a 63-80 loss. The night before, he had 7 points, 3 rebounds and one assist in 10 minutes of a 93-96 loss. His ability to contribute in limited and extended stretches could be a factor against a Santos team searching for its first win.
San Luis Potosi will lean on Antonio Woods, whose recent performances show a consistent scoring and playmaking presence. Woods played 34 minutes and scored 15 points in the Santos’ Aug. 1 loss to Correcaminos. In the game before that, a 91-78 win at Correcaminos on July 31, he played 37 minutes and posted 17 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists. Woods also had 16 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists in a July 23 win over Zacatecas, then scored 2 points with 3 rebounds in a July 24 win against the same opponent. In four listed games, he averaged 12.5 points.
Interstat’s ELO system gives Cancun a 63.9 percent chance to win Thursday’s contest. The projection comes after El Calor already handled the Santos in the opener, though the five-point margin in overtime showed San Luis Potosi can compete despite its record.
Thursday’s matchup is the second in a busy early-season stretch. After this game, Cancun hosts Zacatecas on Aug. 10-11, visits Correcaminos on Aug. 15-16 and Irapuato on Aug. 19-20, then hosts Jal. Astros on Aug. 24-25. San Luis Potosi visits Jal. Astros on Aug. 11-12, hosts Soles on Aug. 15-16, visits Aguascalientes on Aug. 20-21, hosts Dorados and Diablos Rojos on Aug. 24-25, visits Diablos Rojos on Aug. 28 and hosts Lobos Plateados on Sept. 21.
