Cancun El Calor vs. Lobos Plateados
MEXICO CITY (Interstat) — The Lobos Plateados open their season Friday night against the Cancun El Calor in a matchup organized by the Mexican LNBP.
Lobos Plateados enter with a 0-0 record, while Cancun El Calor brings an 8-13 mark.
The teams were scheduled to play Thursday, but that game was not contested, resulting in a 0-0 forfeit.
Cancun El Calor is coming off a 71-65 loss to Xalapa on Oct. 6, 2025. Forwards Martin Fernandez and guard Gregory Vargas were among the top performers. The El Calor have dropped four of their last five games.
In that span, Cancun’s only win came Sept. 20, a 93-88 victory over Gambusinos. The El Calor also fell to Gambusinos 81-68 the previous night. They split a two-game set against Diablos Rojos on Sept. 26-27, losing 73-71 and 84-83. Earlier in the month, they dropped two of three against Xalapa, winning 70-69 on Oct. 3 before losing 52-83 on Oct. 2 and 71-65 on Oct. 6.
Cancun also lost 77-83 to Dorados on Sept. 9 but swept San Luis Potosi on Sept. 13-14, winning 90-60 and losing 87-74.
Lobos Plateados have not played since an 86-91 overtime loss to Fuerza Regia on Aug. 16, 2024. That result, nearly two years ago, marks their most recent competitive action.
The lengthy layoff presents an unknown factor for Lobos Plateados, who will rely on home-court advantage to counter Cancun’s experience.
For Cancun El Calor, the key will be generating consistent offense. In their last five games, they averaged 68.2 points. Fernandez and Vargas will need to shoulder the scoring load against a Lobos squad eager to make a statement in its season debut.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time.
